Adaptation to scientific and technical progress of Annex II to Directive 2000/53/EC (ELV) and of the Annex to Directive 2002/95/EC (RoHS)

Background and Objectives

Directives 2000/53/EC on end-of-life vehicles ("ELV" Directive) and Directive 2002/95/EC on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment ("RoHS" Directive) restrict the use of certain hazardous substances in vehicles and in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) respectively. These Directives include lists of exemptions to these use restrictions which are adapted regularly to scientific and technical progress according to the respective provisions in the Directives.

The European Commission has contracted Öko-Institut e.V. together with Fraunhofer IZM in order to assist with the technical and scientific evaluation of selected exemptions (up to 20 exemptions) from the substance restrictions laid down by the ELV and the RoHS Directives.
